Keeping kids on task with homework can be a big challenge sometimes. Much of it depends on certain factors such as the age of your child or the subject of the material the homework is in. Here are a few guides to help you help your child. Make sure your child understands the assignment One problem we often overlook is that we assume that just because our kids are in school all day that they understand everything they’ve been taught. But sometimes, some subjects are more difficult than others for our kids to learn. Make sure your child knows what’s going on. Get them help If they don’t understand, have your child ask the teacher for more assistance. Be sure you follow up with the teacher to make sure your child has asked. For younger children, you can contact the teacher directly on behalf of your child for recommendations. Older children may need a tutor to help them master the troubling subject. Make it part of their responsibilities Add it to their chores for the week. Homework should be completed and checked by you. Failure to make an effort on homework will result in less or no allowance. Check it over With older kids, you can give them more liberty, however you should offer your proofreading services. With younger kids, check the homework each night. Offer praise for a job well done Gush more about it with younger kids, but even if your kid is bigger, make sure you let them know how proud you are of them for doing so well on their studies. |
