The key to a child’s academic success is his or her parents’ active involvement in their learning. To do so, it is important to establish a connection with their teacher. That being said, knowing the right questions to ask is crucial as well. Next time you meet with your little one’s teacher, consider asking the following:
School isn’t only about the ABC’s and 123’s. Your child’s social interactions are important as well and his or her teacher will have a good idea of how well your child connects with other students.
It is better to be proactive with your child’s academic success than to wait for a report card indicating your child struggles with a particular subject. Knowing the areas your child needs to improves on provides you a great opportunity to give extra support at home.
Discussions with teachers tend to focus on negative aspects of your child’s schoolwork. Take this opportunity to find out what your child excels at and be sure to praise them for the good work they do.
Every child learns at their own pace, but each grade of school has certain expectations dependent on your child’s age. If your child is falling behind, it is best to find out as soon as possible in order to organize extra support to ensure they keep up with their peers.
While this question may pertain to social, emotional or academic struggles, it is a great opportunity to find out what the teacher can do to address these struggles. If your child requires additional resources, discuss with his or her teacher what can be put into place. |
